Week 9

#23
Some parts of ACL Learning 2.0 I enjoyed and some I found frustrating, like when I tried to insert a picture and couldn't find the straight-forward way to do it. I think at times I created problems for myself by not doing things the simplest way possible, but trying to find things that interested me. I really felt a sense of achievement when I managed to insert the video that would play on my blog.
LibraryThing is a resource that I would use again, and I can see the use of wikis and RSS feeds. This Learning 2.00 experience has taught me about a range of technologies I haven't used before and ways to access them. Yeah!!!!!

Week 9

#22
I created an account in Netlibrary and added some books to my favourites. 'Home with your ancestors' about researching family history through the Internet is one that I might want to read. Under the keywod 'writing' I got 'The Art of Writing' by Robert Louis Stevenson I might be interested in and Kate Grenville's 'Writing from Start to Finish'.

Week 9

#21
I had a look at the tutorial on Podcasts, and investigated Podcast. net looking under the Arts, both Performance and Books listings. I located one in Yahoo Podcasts I wished to listen to but was unable to without downloading software which I didn't attempt to do. Here is the link to Arts Festivals under Podcast.net

Week 9

#20
I went into YouTube and played a few of them. I'm not sure why I would want to watch 1970s TV commercials, 'my mummy said I could' a modern day ad is quite funny as is Conan the librarian'. The link from '60s music videos' said 'this video has been removed due to terms of use violation'. The libray school video showed how YouTube can be used for marketing resources to customers. YouTube videos could be used by the library to promote an event in an unusual way or briefly convey information through action. They would need to be eye-catching or poss. dramatic to grab the attention of people who use YouTube and have a vast number of videos to choose from. I looked at a video 'biblical relic or clever hoax' Geographic has various info videos. I have chosen the video Census of Marine Life, because I enjoyed the visuals of this world and the use of the video to emphsise its importance.

Week 8
#19
I looked at the category Books under the Web 2.0 Awards after glancing at the overall categories. Some of the sites such as Technorati under Blog Guides we have looked at earlier in Web 2.0. Under Books the Lulu.com - Self Publishing - Free site seemed to be a networking tool with Forums but also a way for people to advertise services and pay for tools to download and books. Some tools and services are free, and the group activities would be. I found it somewhat frustrating trying to find which were free. When I looked under Events they were all in America, which wasn't useful for me.
http://www.librarything.com/ I have previously looked at to select books and I like this and being able to look at the latest covers and details. Biblio.com could be good for trying to locate old books - they had various Poenamu entries under John Logan Campbell. I looked up Art Books and it came up with a range at reasonable prices and had the NZ price as well underneath the American. When I looked up Beeby the educationist as a word in the title I came up with compltely unrelated books, but when I entered it as a keyword and selected Search AU/NZ only I came up with a whole list of relevant ones mainly that he had authored, because of this option in particular I would find this a useful site.
Week 8
#18
I enrolled in Zoho Writer and looked at the templates, and the range of options such as speadsheets and organisation, where you can put appointments, and the writer documents. I managed to put an image of an amazing circle of some of the Parnell staff into Zoho but when I wanted to put this in a poster or leaflet I was unsuccessful at getting past the original template.
I switched to google docs and inserted the picture and some text at:

http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=d65kcsp_1c5v78zfm

I enlarged and added text.
I did initially email the picture through to the blog but it came up huge in a separate post, and I've I deleted it.
Week 7
#17 Playing around with PBWiki
http://acllearn.pbwiki.com/

On the ACL Learning Wiki page I entered this blog part way down under Favourite blogs page, creating a space for it. I entered details under 'favourite holiday destination' linked to my blog, and added 'Bel Canto' by Ann Patchett to favourite books creating a link through to LibraryThing. I just put the link in to the ACL Learning Wiki above. I found the clicking into editing and then saving afterwards pretty straightforward.
